“Let’s be clear, Stevie,” I tell her, not sure I want to know what she’s thinking.

“Okay,” she says, and I know she’s preparing her argument.

“The masquerade can be insane, so you need to tell me exactly what you’re agreeing to. You know about the touching chamber, and the strip shows, and the bedrooms to watch or be watched. You know about the opportunity for multiple partners and the male/female dynamic. Well, on Halloween, double the people and double the freak show. She takes a breath, like she’s given this a lot of thought, but is afraid to ask me for what she needs. It rips at my fucking heart.

“I want a night to find each other again,” she says with wide eyes that strip me to my core. “What do you want?”

I want so much more.

“I want to make you happy,” I say instead. “What would it take to do that?

“One night of adventure,” she says. “A night without any rules.”

Hell, if she doesn’t look like a minx when she says it. It reminds me how she looked that very first night I found her. Curious. Excited. And so fucking hot.
